Olympic Notes: South Korea Hoping To Unite Northeast Asian Leaders In PyeongChang

South Korea, which has invited "the leaders of key Northeast Asian countries to the upcoming PyeongChang Winter Olympics," is pushing to make the event a "venue for summit diplomacy." President Moon Jae-in "personally invited" Japanese PM Shinzo Abe and Russian President Vladimir Putin to the Olympics that South Korea will host from Feb. 9-25. Moon "also formally requested Chinese President Xi Jinping visit South Korea during the Olympics season" (YONHAP, 9/28).

Denmark announced the participation of its Olympic and Paralympic athletes in Tokyo 2020 will be overseen by a single organization. The National Paralympic Committee of Denmark (Parasport Denmark) handed off the Paralympic responsibilities to the Sports Confederation of Denmark (DIF), meaning the country's National Olympic Committee will now lead both Olympic and Paralympic athletes (IPC).

The organizing committee for the Beijing 2022 Olympic and Paralympic Games named Anta its sports apparel partner. Anta has been a partner of the Chinese Olympic team the last two Olympic cycles. The brand will provide the Beijing 2022 organizing committee and Chinese athletes with sportswear containing typical Chinese elements to showcase China's national image (Anta).
