Event Notes: Wellington Phoenix In Talks To Play 'Home' Match In Canberra

A-League side Wellington Phoenix is in talks to play a "home" match in Canberra this season. The fixture "has not been confirmed, despite the start of the season being only 10 days away," but it would see the Phoenix take on the Western Sydney Wanderers at GIO Stadium on Jan. 13. The match is currently listed on the Phoenix website to be played at Westpac Stadium, but the stadium's website "does not have a listing for that day" (STUFF, 9/28).

Brisbane has become the first city to sell out a women's Ashes cricket match, Cricket Australia confirmed. CA sold all 2,000 tickets to the 50-over ODI between Australia and England at the Allan Border Field on Oct. 22. CA CEO James Sutherland said, "It is even more significant given this is the first time tickets have been on sale to Australian Women's Cricket Team matches in Australia" (BRISBANE TIMES, 9/28).

The Tour de Yorkshire will have four new stage venues for the '18 edition of the race. Barnsley, Halifax, Ilkley and Richmond "will host either a start or finish for the first time next year," with previous host venues Beverley, Doncaster, Leeds and Scarborough also included (London DAILY MAIL, 9/28).

Florida Cup officials confirmed Scottish Premiership side Rangers, Brasileiro side Corinthians and Colombian side Atlético Nacional will participate in the '18 tournament (Florida Cup).

A "last-minute decision" by the UAE FA to cancel a match against the Moroccan national team has been "explained by media as evidence of a Morocco-UAE tension over the Qatar crisis." The UAEFA reportedly "gave as an excuse the fact that no coach has been appointed yet to the UAE national team" (MOROCCO WORLD NEWS, 9/27).

Malaysia on Thursday banned its citizens from traveling to North Korea. The travel ban prompted the Asian Football Confederation to postpone for the third time an Asian Cup qualifier match between Malaysia and North Korea scheduled for Oct. 5 in Pyongyang (AP, 9/28).

Ironman announced its first event in Kazakhstan will take place in Astana on June 17, 2018 (Ironman).
