Event Notes: Cologne Wants 5-0 Loss To Borussia Dortmund Replayed

Bundesliga side Cologne wants to "force a rematch after an irregular goal was wrongfully awarded" in its 5-0 loss to Borussia Dortmund on Sunday. Dortmund defender Sokratis Papastathopoulos put the ball into the net in injury time of the first half following a corner. The referee had blown the whistle after spotting a foul on Cologne goalkeeper Timo Horn, but the call was overruled by the Video Assistant Referee. The goal, however, was "wrongfully reviewed" as the referee had blown his whistle "a fraction of a second before the ball had crossed the line" (ESPN.com, 9/17).

A cricket match in Durham will go ahead as planned "just days after a section of stand collapsed, injuring three people." Fans were watching the T20 cricket match between England and the West Indies "when the collapse happened and spectators had to be evacuated from the terrace as a precaution." Durham’s County Championship fixture against Sussex will go ahead on Tuesday but the North East Terrace "will remain closed during the week’s match" (CHRONICLE LIVE, 9/18).

The Giro d'Italia will begin in Jerusalem next May, before continuing with stages between Haifa and Tel Aviv and Beersheba and Eilat. It will be the first time one of cycling’s three grand tours will "break ground beyond Europe and will arguably be the most prestigious sporting event ever held in Israel." The race will begin on May 4, when 176 of the world's top cyclists will "get the competition under way against the backdrop of Jerusalem's Old City" (JPOST, 9/18).

Argentina could be "eyeing a return" to Formula 1. Canal F1 Latin America reported F1 Race Dir Charlie Whiting recently inspected the old Buenos Aires circuit, which last hosted a grand prix in '98. Whiting said, "I went there and wrote a report on what would have to be done" (GRAND PRIX, 9/18).
