Madrid Spokesperson Says City Not Interested In Fourth Olympic Bid

Madrid Mayor Manuela Carmena's government responded to the Spanish Olympic Committee (COE) by saying that a "fourth bid to host the Olympics is not being considered," because the city is "trying to get off that path and avoid the debt" that Olympic bids leave behind, according to the EFE. Madrid City Council spokesperson Rita Maestre explained the city's position after COE President Alejandro Blanco said that "as long as there is economic and political stability, Madrid should bid for the Olympics again." Madrid bid to host the 2012, 2016 and 2020 Olympics (EFE, 9/7).
