West Ham Could Face Scheduling Conflict If UKA Bids For '22 Athletics Event

EPL side West Ham United, which is last in the Premier League after three defeats away from home while the London Stadium was "returning to football mode" after the World Athletics Championships, is "possibly facing a worse scenario" in '22, according to Charles Sale of the London DAILY MAIL. UK Athletics CEO Niels de Vos said that he "intends to take advantage of a clause" in the organization's tenancy agreement "allowing the hosting of a major event every five years by probably bidding for the European Athletics Championships" in '22. With the '22-23 season "expected to start early" because of the World Cup in Qatar in Dec. '22, "another nightmare scenario" is facing the club. The capacity attendances throughout the recent athletics championships would make London "hot favourites to win a Euro bid." West Ham is "not going to welcome another August disruption" -- calling the '17 championships a "once in a generation" occasion (DAILY MAIL, 9/6)
