Facility Notes: Adelaide Oval Phasing Out Cash Payments

Fans attending Adelaide Oval for the first Australian Football League qualifying final on Thursday faced "a challenge" if they wanted to pay with cash. The oval this year "converted a large number of outlets to only accept card payments." It is a move Adelaide Oval Stadium Management Authority GM Darren Chandler said was "all about faster service and followed a trial for card-only outlets" during the '16-17 cricket season (ABC, 9/7).

The "normally pristine" Lord’s playing surface has been hit by an outbreak of "fairy rings" that caused "unsightly" crop circle-style markings on the pitch. The latest ever start to a Lord’s Test "left the groundstaff battling with damp autumnal conditions and the fairy rings, caused by mushroom spores, have broken out all across the square." The Marylebone Cricket Club said that they "will have no effect on playing conditions" (London TELEGRAPH, 9/6).
