Juventus President Andrea Agnelli Succeeds Rummenigge As ECA Chair

Juventus President Andrea Agnelli succeeded Karl-Heinz Rummenigge as the new chair of the European Club Association, according to Ben Gladwell of ESPN.com. Agnelli was elected at a meeting in Geneva on Tuesday, the day after Bayern Munich CEO Rummenigge stepped down. Agnelli, who has been an ECA exec committee member since '12, "will also automatically keep the place" on UEFA's exec committee that he has held since '15. Rummenigge, meanwhile, "takes on honorary chairmanship at the ECA after stepping down" (ESPN.com, 9/5). INSIDE WORLD FOOTBALL's Andrew Warshaw reported the ECA, which represents more than 200 clubs, also chose Arsenal CEO Ivan Gazidis to join Agnelli on the UEFA exec committee "as the voice of the clubs," starting later this month. UEFA is "set to give the ECA’s two club delegates full voting rights" when it meets for an extraordinary congress in Geneva on March 20. At its general assembly in Geneva, the ECA also elected 11 board members and named its four representatives to UEFA's professional football strategy council as Barcelona President Josep Maria Bartomeu, ManU Exec Vice-Chair Ed Woodward, Paris St. Germain Owner Nasser Al-Khelaifi and Celtic CEO Peter Lawwell (INSIDE WORLD FOOTBALL, 9/5).
