Marketplace Roundup: Hertha Berlin Enters Two-Year Deal With Gasag

Bundesliga side Hertha Berlin "entered into a two-year commercial agreement with renewable energy supplier Gasag." The German company becomes a third-tier sponsor of the club until the end of the '18-19 season. Although the financial terms of the contract have not been released, German outlet SPONSORs estimated Gasag's fiscal commitment will be "in the region" of €150,000 ($178,500) per year. In addition to a "strong brand presence" at the Olympiastadion Berlin, Gasag will offer fans of the club "preferential deals such as paying them 50 cents for every victory" in the Bundesliga, the German FA (DFB) Cup and the Europa League (SOCCEREX, 9/1).

South African Rugby announced car brand Land Rover as an associate sponsor and official vehicle partner. The three-year partnership with SA Rugby will see Land Rover support the Springboks' Rugby World Cup 2019 campaign, "of which Land Rover is a global sponsor." SA Rugby and Springbok players "will receive support from Land Rover in the form of official team vehicles" (SPORT24, 9/1).

Brasileiro side Corinthians renewed its commercial agreement with lamp importer Foxlux until Dec. '18. The company will remain the club's back-of-shirt sponsor. It will also "continue to have a strong brand presence" at the Arena Corinthians in São Paulo. Financial terms were not released (SOCCEREX, 9/4).

The Queensland Rugby Union and St. George Bank renewed their partnership for a further three-year term. St. George will embark on its fourth term as naming rights sponsor of the Queensland Reds (Queensland Reds).

Engine agency Synergy has been appointed as the retained U.K. PR firm for sports apparel brand Under Armour. Work started last month on the brief, "which Synergy has taken over from PrettyGreen." Synergy previously worked with Under Armour, which sponsors boxer Anthony Joshua, tennis player Andy Murray "and other teams and athletes, on a project basis" (PR WEEK, 9/4).

The Global Association of Int'l Sports Federations unveiled a new logo and fresh brand-style. The logo was commissioned following the unanimous decision of members at the general assembly in Aarhus, Denmark, to change the name of the organization from SportAccord to GAISF. The brief was awarded to Barcelona-based designer José Miguel Tortajada Aguilar (GAISF).

Tanzanian football side Mbao signed a 140M Tanzanian shillings ($62,500) sponsorship deal with GF Trucks & Equipment. Tanzania Football Federation spokesperson Alfred Lucas said that the company will buy a team bus worth 70M Tanzanian shillings ($31,200) and "the rest of the cash" will go toward "everyday running of the club." Details "of the contracts, though, have not been revealed" (GOAL, 8/30).

Shannon Airport announced it has come on board as Pro14 side Munster Rugby's "Official Airport Partner" in a three-year commitment. The partnership formalizes a long-standing relationship between the province and Shannon, with the airport having hosted Munster homecomings over the years (Shannon Airport).

Subbuteo "is back and now with a European dimension with UEFA having licensed a Champions League edition of the table football game" with Spanish owner Eleven Force. Meanwhile, Subbuteo's world body -- Fédération Internationale de Sport Football de Table (FISTF) -- announced it will be staging its own 2017 European Champions League of Table Football from Oct. 28-29 in Rochefort, Belgium (INSIDE WORLD FOOTBALL, 9/4).
