Event Notes: NFL Bans Fans From Taking Bags To London Games

The NFL announced fans attending its London games in September and October "will be banned from taking bags into both Twickenham and Wembley Stadium in an attempt to improve security and to make entry to the stadium smoother." The ban, which the NFL said will be "100% enforced" at both grounds, is a "tougher extension" of the policy in the U.S. which limits the size of bags allowed into stadiums. London will host four NFL games this year (London EVENING STANDARD).

Bulgarian Kubrat Pulev will face world heavyweight champion Anthony Joshua for the Int'l Boxing Federation title on Oct. 28 in Cardiff. Joshua has been told "he must face IBF mandatory challenger Pulev before Dec. 2 or risk being stripped of that belt" (London TELEGRAPH, 9/4).

Boxer Manny Pacquiao "pulled out of a welterweight rematch with Australian Jeff Horn." The Filipino fighter, 38, is said to have "other commitments" at the time of the rescheduled bout on Nov. 12. The Queensland state government, which is the financial backer for the fight, said that it will "continue to support" Horn's WBO world welterweight title defense, "whoever the challenger is" (BBC, 9/1).

A man has been arrested after a crossbow arrow was fired into The Oval cricket ground during a match. The 35-year-old was held on "suspicion of attempted grievous bodily harm" following the incident at the south London stadium on Thursday (BBC, 9/2).

Twelve people have been injured after a competition car "sprayed burning fuel over fans at a drag-racing event in central Australia." The car was doing burnouts at the Red CentreNATS competition in Alice Springs when it "sent lit fuel into the crowd" (BBC, 9/4).
