A "number of Indian fans hoping to watch the big fight" between Floyd Mayweather Jr. and Conor McGregor on Sunday "were left disappointed after technical issues marred coverage of the event," according to THE HINDU. Digital platform Veqta, which had the broadcast rights to the event, said that "a rapid surge in demand" caused difficulties on its website and its mobile applications. Users "struggled to register," while "a number of those who did and paid the subscription fee" of 99 rupees ($1.54) were "unable to stream the fight." In a statement, Veqta said that "only a minority of subscribers were affected." The company added, "We will work with them to address their concerns and grievances." Veqta did not comment on the matter of refunds (THE HINDU, 8/29).
MYSTERIOUS CODE: FOX NEWS' James Rogers wrote a "mysterious code reportedly appeared in some pirated streams" of the "much-hyped" fight, "sparking suspicions that someone was trying to find out who was watching the illegal streams." Copyright and filesharing news site TorrentFreak said that it received an unsubstantiated report that "an unusual watermark" was embedded into streams originally broadcast by Sky Sports Box Office, which was licensed to show the fight in the U.K. Sky Sports Box Office declined to comment (FOX NEWS, 8/28).
