Football Notes: ManU Re-Signs Zlatan Ibrahimović On One-Year Contract

ManU announced it re-signed striker Zlatan Ibrahimović on a new one-year contract. Ibrahimović was released at the end of last season "following a major injury but is now back at Old Trafford" for the '17-18 campaign (ESPN.com, 8/24).

England players will have to give notice to Manager Gareth Southgate "if they want to meet their agents to discuss a transfer" while they are on int'l duty next week.The team will meet at St. George's Park to begin preparations on Sunday, "four days before the deadline." Some potential members of the squad "could be the subject of transfer bids" before Thursday's 11pm deadline, but Southgate wants to "ensure that his players' focus is on the important matches ahead" (LONDON TIMES, 8/24).

Scottish League One side Albion Rovers was "thrown out of the Scottish Challenge Cup" and fined £2,000 ($2,560) for "fielding an unregistered player" in its win over Lowland Football League side Spartans. The Spartans will instead host Linfield in the second round on Sept. 2 (BBC, 8/24).
