League Two Side Cambridge United Looking For Alternative Stadium Plans

League Two side Cambridge United CEO Jez George "hopes it will not be long" before his club can reveal its alternative proposals to redevelop Abbey Stadium, according to Aaron Mason of the CAMBRIDGE NEWS. The scheme "looked to be up in the air" after Cambridge United’s landlord, Grosvenor, withdrew its planning applications to South Cambridgeshire District Council for a sporting village at Trumpington and a revamp of the club’s ground in June. But George said that the club was "still working closely with Grosvenor in making headway" toward a solution on the stadium. He added that while the announcement of the withdrawal "may have come as a shock to fans," that was not the case for Cambridge United. George: "We've known the difficulties in securing planning at Trumpington. We've been engaged fully with the local authorities for a number of months, so therefore the announcement came as no surprise. ... We've been working really proactively on an alternative" (CAMBRIDGE NEWS, 8/17).
