Event Notes: Former England Cricket Coach In Line To Coach World XI In Lahore

Former England cricket coach Andy Flower is "in line to coach a World XI in Lahore next month." Players are being offered "more than" £75,000 ($97,800) to play in the series which the Int'l Cricket Council "hopes will revive cricket in Pakistan eight years on from the terrorist attack on the Sri Lanka team." Flower is expected to coach and select an ICC squad that will play three Twenty20 internationals at the Gadaffi Stadium. A security report will be delivered this week by the Federation of Int'l Cricketers' Associations which will "go a long way to persuading players whether it is safe to go" (London TELEGRAPH, 8/5).

Premier League side Burnley's preseason friendly at home to Bundesliga side Hannover 96 was "abandoned on police advice after crowd trouble." Trouble "broke out in the first half" in the Hannover fans' section at Turf Moor on Saturday. Seats were "ripped up and thrown" after visiting supporters "surged" toward the home fans in the Cricket Field Stand around five minutes before the end of the first half (BBC, 8/6).
