Football Notes: South African Club Wins Promotion By Buying League Champ

South Africa FA President Danny Jordaan "will meet the country's Premier League about big clubs buying their way into the top flight." South Africa's Premier Soccer League recently allowed AmaZulu to purchase National First Division champion Thanda Royal Zulu. AmaZulu, which finished fifth and "missed out on promotion," will move Thandu 100 miles to its ground in Durban, rename the club AmaZulu and take its place in the Premiership (BBC, 7/12).

The Korea FA on Wednesday announced new coaches for the men's national team, with two members of the 2002 World Cup team joining head coach Shin Tae-Yong's staff. The KFA said that it hired Jeon Kyung-jun, Kim Nam-il, Cha Du-ri, Kim Hae-woon and Lee Jae-hong as backroom staff for the national team "following Shin's request" (YONHAP, 7/12).

French Guiana
is facing disciplinary action after fielding ex-Chelsea and France midfielder Florent Malouda in a CONCACAF Gold Cup match. Malouda played in Tuesday's goalless draw against Honduras "despite being ineligible" under the FIFA rules in use. A CONCACAF official said, "We are using FIFA rules so a player who's played in an official match for a different [country] cannot play in the Gold Cup" (BBC, 7/12).
