Football Notes: La Liga, Spanish Footballers' Association At Odds Over '17-18 Calendar

There is reportedly "still no agreement between La Liga, the Spanish Footballers' Association (AFE) and the Spanish Football Federation (RFEF) regarding the calendar for the '17-18 season." The RFEF "will hold a general assembly in 23 days, when the calendar will be decided." There are, however, differences between the AFE and La Liga that "seem impossible to resolve" (AS, 6/27).

The video assistant referee technology being tested at the Confederations Cup in Russia "should be refined," FIFA Head of Refereeing Massimo Busacca said on Monday. Busacca added, "In general we have really good results but for sure ... many aspects should be improved." The main criticisms are the "time taken to make decisions and the referees' criteria in deciding when to use the system" (REUTERS, 6/26).

Scottish FA Performance Dir Malky Mackay launched a mentoring program for young coaches. He wants the scheme to help to shape "managers of the future at the top level." Coaches from across Scotland will attend two days of education, as Mackay seeks to implement his "best practice" approach to development (BBC, 6/27).
