FSF Accuses Premier League Of Pricing Out Fans Over Christmas

The Football Supporters' Federation accused the Premier League of "pricing fans out of games over Christmas and the new year," according to Paul Hirst of the LONDON TIMES. The announcement of the fixtures for the '17-18 season "immediately drew anger from the FSF, which said it was unrealistic to expect supporters to be able to afford" to attend what it described as a "glut" of fixtures between Nov. 25 and Jan. 1. During that time, each team will play 10 matches. Two seasons ago, clubs played seven league games in that period. The FSF said, "Inevitably, some fans will have to make hard choices with regards to attending matches." It pointed out that Newcastle United fans will have to travel 2,484 miles, including three trips to London, during that period (LONDON TIMES, 6/15).

SACKINGS DOWN: The BBC reported there were 53% fewer Premier League managerial dismissals last campaign "compared to the previous season," figures released by the League Managers Association show. Seven bosses were sacked in the '16-17 season, a reduction from 12 during '15-16 and the second-lowest number over the past five years. The total dismissals in the top four English leagues was 44, down from 58 (BBC, 6/14).
