Franchise Notes: Brisbane Roar Will Appeal Asian Football Confederation Fine

A-League side Brisbane Roar will appeal a "hefty fine" from the Asian Football Confederation for not providing "international buffet style" meals for a group of traveling Champions League match officials. But the AFC refuted claims from Roar Managing Dir Mark Kingsman that the club was sanctioned because the six-man delegation was unable to eat lobster twice a day, accusing the club of a "lack of respect for the competition's strict regulations." The club was fined 20% of its $50,000 match subsidy (AAP, 5/31).

Arsenal Manager Arsène Wenger ended "months of speculation about his future" on Wednesday by signing a new two-year deal with the club that will keep the Frenchman at the Emirates Stadium until '19. Wenger said, "I love this club and I am looking forward to the future with optimism and excitement" (REUTERS, 5/31).

The prosecution case against former Scottish football side Rangers Owner Craig Whyte concluded at the High Court in Glasgow. Whyte is accused of "acquiring Rangers by fraud." He denied the charge and another under the Companies Act. A total of 17 witnesses have given evidence so far -- including David Murray, Walter Smith and Ally McCoist (BBC, 5/30).
