Swansea City Reveals Matchday, Commercial Income Among Lowest In Premier League

Swansea City's wage bill has been confirmed as "one of the lowest in the Premier League" -- but it still accounted for a "huge chunk" of the club's EPL cash, according to Chris Wathan of WALES ONLINE. Swansea had already published figures that showed it made a "record" £14.6M loss "for the period covering last season." And, for the figures for the financial year covering '15-16, the club admitted its turnover dropped by around £7M to £97.2M -- "with the vast majority of that coming from top-flight broadcast payments." Now the full set of figures have been lodged with Companies House that confirm those numbers, and also "spell out the staggering cost of maintaining a Premier League squad." Although the wages noted cover all staff -- including directors' remuneration of £877,528 -- the total wage bill cited, including contributions, added up to £81.77M for last season. Taking into consideration the £97.2M turnover, it means 84% of Swansea's income was spent on wages last season (WALES ONLINE, 5/8).
