Tottenham Hotspur will
hold talks with its local Safety Advisory Group and the
FA "before any decision is taken"
on how many tickets League One side Millwall receives for the the FA Cup quarterfinal match between the clubs "amid fears of trouble." The move came as Leicester City complained to the FA over the "abuse, provocation and intimidation" its fans suffered in the Cup defeat at Millwall on Saturday "as home fans ran on to the pitch to celebrate the League One club’s victory." The FA is "well aware" of the history between the clubs and will be involved in talks over the kickoff time with the Metropolitan Police, Tottenham, Millwall and, if the tie is picked for TV, broadcasters (
London TELEGRAPH, 2/20).
Premier League side Sunderland staff are facing "another round of redundancies following a further review" of business operations. Staff at both the stadium and the club's training ground were called into a meeting and "told that redundancies were on the way." A number of employees "received emails offering the option to take voluntary redundancies" (SKY SPORTS, 2/21).
La Liga side Sevilla President Pepe Castro said that coach Jorge Sampaoli has been "offered a one-year contract extension amid reports of interest from Barcelona." Sampaoli, whose current deal expires in June '18, has had a "hugely impressive first season at Sevilla and reports in Spain have linked him with the Barcelona coaching position should Luis Enrique not sign a new contract with the Catalan outfit" (ESPN.com, 2/21).
Serbian SuperLiga side Rad Belgrade has been "ordered not to play" first division matches in its home stadium until Serbian football authorities "rule over the racial insults directed there" at Everton Luiz. Rad's fans "subjected Partizan's Brazilian midfielder Luiz to monkey chants in Sunday's league match." He was abused "throughout the ill-tempered match and a full-scale player brawl broke out when he retaliated with an obscene gesture after the final whistle" (REUTERS, 2/20).
