Event Notes: Newcastle, Bath To Hold Races On Good Friday

Newcastle Racecourse and Bath Racecourse "are to join Lingfield Park in racing on Good Friday this year." In addition to the All-Weather Championships Finals Day at Lingfield, which offers prize money of £1M ($1.25M), Newcastle and Bath will run cards worth £250,000 ($312,000) and £175,000 ($219,000), respectively, on April 14. Following the "multi-million pound redevelopment" of the facilities at Bath in '16, Good Friday will see the course host its "richest ever raceday" to open the '17 season (SKY SPORTS, 2/16).

Karachi Mayor Waseem Akhtar on Thursday said that he "would like" the Pakistan Cricket Board to hold the final match of the Pakistan Super League "in the metropolis." He promised "support to organise the event in every way." The PCB had promised to provide "top-level security" to the PSL finalists at Gaddafi Stadium. But a bomber targeting police negotiating with protesting pharmacists on Monday killed 13 people in Lahore, "casting fresh doubt over whether foreign cricketers will risk a return to playing in Pakistan" (DAWN, 2/16).

World Boxing Association President Gilberto Mendoza "cast doubt on the prospect of a third fight between Carl Frampton and Leo Santa Cruz." Mendoza said that the WBA "may order a mandatory fight" between featherweight champion Santa Cruz and fellow Mexican Abner Mares (BBC, 2/16).
