Bundesliga Side RB Leipzig Ready To Purchase Zentralstadion, Increase Capacity

Bundesliga side RB Leipzig "unveiled plans to increase the capacity of the Zentralstadion after reaching a deal to buy the ground from its current owner," according to the PA. RB Leipzig has been playing its home games at the stadium -- a 2006 World Cup venue -- since '10, and is "set to go from being tenants to owners, provided Leipzig city council rubber-stamps the agreement." Club GM Oliver Mintzlaff said, "We are delighted that, after long but good negotiations, we are able to announce the purchase of the Zentralstadion. This decision is a clear signal to our fans as well as the city of Leipzig. It is now up to the city to agree to the sale and give a positive response to our building plans." RB Leipzig hopes to "increase the capacity of the venue" from its current 42,558 to 57,000 (PA, 12/22).
