After 37 years with the Associated Press, STEVE WILSON will join the staff of the Int'l Tennis Federation. He will become director of communications & int'l relations for the ITF beginning Jan. 9. He has covered every Olympics since '84, "along with nearly every meeting of the IOC Executive Board, and countless dozens of other meetings and sports events that line the calendar." Wilson is the current president of the Olympic Journalists Association. He will arrive in January along with "another notable new hire," KELLY FAIRWEATHER as COO. A sports administrator most recently at the Int'l Field Hockey Federation, the South Africa native "has done a stint as sports director at the IOC and worked with WADA" (AROUND THE RINGS, 12/5). ... French Surfing Federation (FFS) President JEAN-LUC ARASSUS was unanimously reelected during the FFS general assembly. Arassus has been president since ’05 (FFS). ... U.K. charity Sported appointed TOM BURSTOW as deputy CEO. Working alongside Sported CEO CHRIS GRANT, Burstow's responsibilities will include managing strategic external relationships and leading on income generation (Sported).
COACHES/MANAGERS: Former England Manager SVEN-GORAN ERIKSSON has been appointed manager of Chinese second tier club Shenzhen. The 68-year-old Swede will replace former Netherlands midfielder CLARENCE SEEDORF, who took over in July but failed to win promotion. Eriksson, who managed England between '01 and '06, left Chinese Super League side Shanghai SIPG in November after two years in charge (BBC, 12/5). ... RICARDO CARUSO LOMBARDI resigned as coach of Argentine first division side Huracán "after coaching it for just eight games." Candidates to replace Lombardi include JUAN AZCONZÁBAL, ARIEL HOLAN and FERNANDO QUIRÓZ (TÉLAM, 12/5). ... Belgian Jupiler Pro League side Excel Mouscron Manager GLEN DE BOECK was “fired from his post over poor results.” De Boeck, 45, arrived at Mouscron in January, and replaced CEDOMIR JANEVSKI (BELGA, 12/5). ... Premiership side Bristol Rugby named PAT LAM its new head coach. The 48 year-old -- who led Connacht to its first ever major trophy in '16 -- will join Bristol in June ahead of the '17-18 campaign. Lam returns to the Premiership as a coach after winning the '97-98 Premiership with Newcastle Falcons (Bristol Rugby). ... J.League side Cerezo Osaka appointed former player YOON JONG-HWAN as its new manager on Monday, a day after winning promotion back to the first division next season. The 43-year-old, who played for Cerezo for three seasons from '00-02, managed Tosu from '11-14 and gained promotion with the side to the J.League in his first year in charge (KYODO, 12/5). ... A-League side Wellington Phoenix coach ERNIE MERRICK has resigned, the club confirmed. Merrick told players of his decision after Sunday's 2-0 loss to Adelaide United.
