Stan Collymore Returning To BBC As Robbie Savage Stand-In On 606

Controversial pundit Stan Collymore is "making a surprise return to BBC this Saturday on the flagship football phone-in show 606," according to Charles Sale of the London DAILY MAIL. Collymore, whose contract with talkSport was not renewed after Euro 2016, "is standing in for Robbie Savage," who will be working on BT Sport’s coverage of Liverpool vs. West Brom. There is "no doubting Collymore’s talent as a hardworking analyst who will attract listeners but there are no plans for Collymore to join the BBC on a more regular basis." He has a "habit of falling out with both colleagues and employers." He upset the BBC when he "left them in the lurch" before Euro 2008 by signing for talkSport. And a comeback on the network in '14 with Match of the Day 2, which Collymore "prematurely announced on social media, never materialised." A Radio 5 spokesperson said, "We use a range of contributors on our football phone-in programs. Stan is an experienced and award-winning broadcaster" (DAILY MAIL, 10/18).
