Event Notes: Int'l Weightlifting Federation Moves IWF World Championships To U.S.

The Int'l Weightlifting Federation exec board reallocated the 2017 IWF World Championships to USA Weightlifting. The decision comes after the original host city, Penang, Malaysia, encountered difficulties and resigned from the organization of the event. USA Weightlifting will bring the event to Anaheim, Calif. The 2017 IWF World Championships will be held Nov. 28-Dec. 5, 2017 at the Anaheim Convention Center (IWF). 

Army cricket teams from different countries have arrived in Lahore, Pakistan, "to take part in the first ever Physical Agility Combat Efficiency System competition being hosted by Pakistan Army." Teams from Sri Lanka, England, Saudi Arabia, China and Australia "will participate in the competition." The event is being organized by the Pakistan Army, "which is the first-ever such competition in the world" (DAWN, 10/19).

Turkish side Fenerbahce's team plane "was forced to make an emergency landing after it was hit by a bird" on its way to the U.K. for Thursday's Europa League game against ManU. The private chartered aircraft was traveling from Istanbul in Turkey "when it was diverted to Budapest, Hungary." A second plane was sent from Istanbul to "pick the team up from Budapest and take them to Manchester" (BBC, 10/19).
