Serie A side Napoli President Aurelio De Laurentiis "will donate part of the revenue" from the Napoli-Milan match to victims of an earthquake that hit central Italy. Solidarity "from the world of football and all sports keeps streaming in," after the earthquake that is said to have killed more than 250 people. On from the Agnelli Foundation's donation of €150,000 ($169,000), De Laurentiis tweeted that "a contribution will come from their side too." He tweeted, "Like everybody else I am devastated by the tragedy of the earthquake" (FOOTBALL ITALIA, 8/25).
The Dutch FA (KNVB) is developing "a finger-print operated app which it wants to use" to make sure convicted hooligans do not sneak into matches. Tests of the system "have proved effective but it is up to local councils to decide whether or not to support the project," KNVB spokesperson Hans van Kastel said. The KNVB thinks the app "would be cheaper and more effective than the current reporting system." People with a stadium ban "are now required to report to their local police station on match days" (DUTCH NEWS, 8/25).
CONMEBOL President Alejandro Domínguez said on Wednesday that he had "ordered an audit" of the body after discovering it had been run like a "personal fiefdom" and not been held accountable in past years. He said, "We want justice to be served because we understand that South American soccer was the biggest victim of this problem." Domínguez was elected as CONMEBOL president in January to replace its interim president, Uruguay's Wilmar Valdez (EFE, 8/24).
The Court of Arbitration for Sport upheld Phnom Penh Crown's appeal against the Asian Football Confederation's refusal to allow the club a place in the AFC Cup playoff qualifiers. The May 20 decision by the AFC on the grounds that the Football Federation of Cambodia had "found four officials of the club guilty of match-fixing charges eventually led to Crown being replaced by NagaWorld." CAS dismissed the AFC decision and ordered the Asian football governing body to allow Crown to participate in the 2017 AFC Cup (PHNOM PENH POST, 8/25).
The AFC Appeal Committee on Thursday "dismissed appeals filed by four Nepal footballers and one coach against a lifetime ban" imposed on them on the charge of match-fixing. The decisions were made after a year-long investigation coordinated between the AFC and its partner Sportradar, as well as the Metropolitan Crime Division of the Nepal Police and the UEFA integrity unit (THE HIMALAYAN TIMES, 8/25).
