Argentine FA Execs Reach Agreement With Second Division; Season To Start As Scheduled

After "several days of meetings and a lot of uncertainty, a meeting on Tuesday ended with Argentine football expected to start this weekend," according to GOAL. The Argentine FA was able to reach an agreement with second division directors and "at every level of Argentine football, the season will begin this weekend." This was confirmed by AFA Normalization Committee Chair Armando Pérez. Though "this decision seems to be final, it is worth pointing out that there will be meetings on Wednesday," and a definitive decision will be made then (GOAL, 8/24). In Buenos Aires, Andres Morando reported "a new offer was made to the second division." The meeting on Wednesday "was expected to be just a matter of protocol," as execs from all the categories gave their approval on Tuesday (OLÉ, 8/23). OLÉ reported Pérez said, "We met with all the categories. After negotiating with everyone, we are going to explain all the sums. In September they will earn 300 million Argentine pesos ($20.2M), 150 million Argentine pesos ($10M) in October, 150 million Argentine pesos in November and 350 million Argentine pesos ($23.6M) in December. There is an agreement for a plan to restructure the debt that the clubs have with the AFA" (OLÉ, 8/23).
