CONMEBOL has appointed Legal Dir MONSERRAT JIMENEZ "as interim director general, increasing the influence of female officials" as football recovers from corruption scandals. She joins recently hired FIFA Secretary General FATMA SAMOURA "as the most senior female administrators in the sport." Jimenez, a lawyer from Paraguay, "steps up to replace GORKA VILLAR, a Spanish lawyer who left CONMEBOL as director general last month" (AP, 8/11). ... AC Milan is to appoint former Juventus and Inter Milan Dir General MARCO FASSONE as its new GM and exec director once its "takeover is complete." A Chinese consortium "reached an agreement" last week. In a statement published in China, the new owners said, "Marco Fassone will be the new general manager and executive director of Milan, once the transfer of the ownership from Fininvest to the Sino-Europe Sports Investment Management Changxing is complete." Fassone became Juventus' marketing manager in '03, "before becoming executive director for stadium, marketing and sales before moving to Napoli" as GM in '10 and then Inter between '12 and Sept. '15 (ESPN.com, 8/12). ... Under Armour promoted CMO KIP FULKS to chief product officer. UA also hired VF Corp. VP & Managing Dir COLIN BROWNE as president of global sourcing and Amazon Head of Worldwide Brand & Mass Marketing ANDY DONKIN as CMO (UA). ... La Liga side Villarreal's appointment of FRAN ESCRIBA "came as a surprise to many." He "conceded to being surprised at being chosen as the man to lead" the club. The former Elche manager, sacked by Getafe in April, has "gone from a La Liga relegation battle at the Coliseum Alfonso Perez to managing a club with designs on the Champions League" (GOAL, 8/11). ... Israeli Premier League side Maccabi Haifa named former ManU assistant coach RENE MEULENSTEEN as its new boss. The 52-year-old Dutchman was former ManU Manager ALEX FERGUSON's assistant at Old Trafford from '08-13, "and previously worked with the Red Devils’ youth and reserve teams." Meulensteen will replace RONI LEVY. Meulensteen "had previously been in charge of both Russian side Anzhi Makhachkala and Fulham (JEWISH NEWS, 8/14).
