Football Notes: Goal-Line Technology To Be Used At Scottish Side Celtic's CL Playoff

Goal-line technology "will be installed at Celtic Park next Wednesday" when Scottish Premiership side Celtic faces Hapoel Be'er Sheva in the Champions League playoff round. UEFA used the Hawk-Eye system during Euro 2016 and "voted earlier this year to adopt the technology" in its premier club competition from the playoff round onward. The system "has already been implemented in the English Premier league, German Bundesliga and Italian Serie A and will be used along with additional assistant referees" (HERALD SCOTLAND, 8/11).

Marco Polo Del Nero

PROBE CONFIRMEDFIFA ethics investigators have confirmed they are formally investigating indicted Brazilian Football Confederation (CBF) President Marco Polo Del Nero just days after he met with FIFA President Gianni Infantino. Del Nero has remained president of the CBF despite being among "the officials indicted last year as part of the American investigation into football corruption." After meeting Del Nero on Thursday, Infantino said that "we did not talk about investigations." The investigatory chamber of FIFA's ethics committee said that "there are formal proceedings going on against Marco Polo del Nero" that were opened in December (AP, 8/10).

'STRANGE' INVESTMENTS: Italian Football Federation (FIGC) President Carlo Tavecchio called the Chinese takeovers of Serie sides Inter and AC Milan "strange." The Suning Group bought "the majority share in the Nerazzurri earlier this summer," while Sino-Europe Sports has a "preliminary agreement" to buy AC Milan. Tavecchio: "I think these are strange situations" (FOOTBALL ITALIA, 8/11).
