Spanish Basketball Club Bilbao Needs To Raise €1M To Avoid Entering Bankruptcy

Spanish basketball club Bilbao Basket "is working against the clock to stay alive as a club," according to SPORT. The organization needs €1M ($1.13M) "to assure the viability of the project or it will end up entering bankruptcy." Bilbao Treasurer Carlos del Campo said, "If we do not reach this quantity, the club will enter bankruptcy. There is no other way out. ... If we enter bankruptcy, we would be relegated and there would be no going back. The situation is dramatic. There are 24 hours left and we hope we can take a step forward" (SPORT, 6/15).

OURENSE IN NEED OF 'MIRACLE': The EFE reported Spanish basketball club Ourense's administrative council said on Wednesday that only "a miracle" will allow the team to compete in the Spanish Basketball League (ACB) during the '16-17 season, as it is unable to "meet the financial demands required by the ACB." The team "won the right to compete" at the highest level of Spanish basketball last season, "but then reached an agreement with the ACB to delay its promotion by one year" (EFE, 6/15).
