Marketplace Roundup: FA Signs Long-Term Deal With Ladbrokes As New Betting Partner

The FA signed a long-term agreement with Ladbrokes to become its new official betting partner. The deal, set to start on Aug. 1, will see the bookmakers’ relationship with the FA span the England team and The Emirates FA Cup. Under the terms of the agreement, Ladbrokes will benefit from premium brand exposure alongside England senior men’s matches, and ties across all rounds of The Emirates FA Cup. Also included within the partnership are in-stadia betting rights for Wembley Stadium, enabling Ladbrokes to engage with both their current audience, and drive new customer acquisition around showpiece events held at the stadium (FA).

SEEKING A SPONSOR: The Six Nations Championship "is looking for a new title sponsor" following the Royal Bank of Scotland Group’s decision "to end the deal." The current agreement "will expire after next year’s tournament." RBS became the title sponsor of the Six Nations ahead of the '03 championship and the latest agreement was signed in '13 which was believed to be worth around €55M ($62M) over four years. Six Nations Rugby CEO John Feehan: "All good things must come to a natural end at some point. As mutually beneficial as the relationship is, it is now time after 15 successful and fulfilling years to seek a new title sponsor to partner our great event and go forward with us into the future" (SCOTSMAN, 6/3).

FORGIVE & FORGET: Sales of Juanfran shirts at Atlético Madrid’s club shop "have increased eightfold following his penalty miss in last week’s Champions League final" against rivals Real Madrid. The full-back "was the only one of nine takers to miss his spot-kick." The popularity of the Spain int'l's No. 20 shirt is now in as much demand as those of Fernando Torres and Antoine Griezmann. Juanfran "walked over to the Atlético supporters alone after Ronaldo's winning penalty to ask them for forgiveness and, in turn, received an ovation" (London INDEPENDENT, 6/3).
