Kostelić "published a statement, confirming the news, saying that she agreed to take the position, as she feels obligated to give something back to the sport and her homeland Croatia." This decision by the Croatian Democratic Union (HDZ) "is not a big surprise," as there are allegations that one of their sponsors, ZDRAVKO MAMIĆ, had been consulted regarding this matter (TOTAL CROATIA NEWS, 4/26). ... Motorsport Network announced the appointment of sports merchandising and product marketing expert PAUL PREUVENEERS to the company’s exec management team as CEO of global operations to its e-commerce business, Motorstore.com. The appointment is effective immediately. Preuveneers brings nearly 25 years of industry experience to Motorsport.com. He will oversee all facets of the newly launched E-Store, including P&L, operations, sales and marketing and technology. Preuveneers was CEO of branded sports merchandising, where he led the strategic arm of Puma for sports licensing and merchandising for brands including Ferrari, Mercedes AMG F1, Red Bull, Arsenal and more (Motorsport Network). ... League Championship side Blackburn Rovers Manager PAUL LAMBERT announced that “he will leave his position at the end of the season.” Lambert has decided to “activate a release clause in the two-and-a-half-year contract he signed in November.” Blackburn will begin its search for Lambert’s successor “straight away” (PA, 4/28).
LONDON 2017: The board of London 2017 announced the appointment of a new co-chair and four new non-exec directors who will have strategic oversight of London’s delivery of the World Athletics Championships. ROBIN YOUNG, who headed the department for media, culture and sport as permanent secretary between '98 and '01 and the department for trade and industry from '01 to '05, has been appointed co-chair alongside ED WARNER. Young left the public sector in '05 and has since held a wide variety of non-exec positions. He currently chairs the Circle Housing Group. The newly appointed non-exec directors are: DAVID ARMSTRONG (audit committee chair) -- Group CEO for Wasps where he led the acquisition of the Ricoh Arena and the relocation of the club to Coventry in '14; SIMON BAZALGETTE (senior independent director) -- Group CEO of The Jockey Club, which runs several of the U.K.’s biggest sports events including the Grand National, The Derby and The Cheltenham Festival. He is also chair of The Grubb Institute and a non-exec director of Racecourse Media Group, British Champions Series and the Racecourse Association; LIZ MCMAHON -- the managing director of Madison Muir Group London, whose previous positions include head of marketing for treasury and investor services at JP Morgan, director of marketing services at the IOC and the head of int'l marketing on the winning bid for the 2012 London Olympic Games; and VINAI VENKATESHAM -- chief commercial officer for Arsenal, and formerly part of the commercial team at LOCOG where he worked across the Games’ three-tier sponsorship structure and wider commercial program (London 2017).
