Franchise Notes: Suning Commerce Group Reportedly To Acquire 20-30% Of Inter Milan

Corriere dello Sport reported that the Suning Commerce Group will acquire between 20-30% of the Inter Milan’s shares for a total of around €80M ($90.8M) in November. However, Inter Milan President Erick Thohir "has no intention of giving away the majority stake and therefore any increase in the group’s involvement is unlikely" (FOOTBALL ITALIA, 4/28).

Former League Championship side Leeds United assistant manager Nigel Gibbs won £331,426 ($484,120) in damages "over his dismissal by the club." Justice Langstaff assessed the award due to Gibbs, "who resigned from his post in July 2014, after a hearing at the high court." The judge said that "the sum should be held by Gibbs’ solicitors until agreement was reached on the amount to be withheld because of bonuses he is to receive in his new job as assistant head of player development at Tottenham" (London GUARDIAN, 4/28).

Lancashire Police "are investigating allegations of perjury" made against League One side Blackpool Chair Karl Oyston. The complaint "was lodged following a court date in Manchester last month during which Oyston supplied evidence under oath in a libel case against a supporter." The news "comes just days before Blackpool fans again take to the town's streets in a mass demonstration at the ownership of their club before Saturday's must-win match against Wigan Athletic." The planned protest is coined "Judgement Day 2" and the march will be similar to his time last year, a movement then supported by comedian Russell Brand. Actor James Corden "has backed this season's rally" (London DAILY MAIL, 4/28).
