Rangers Chair Hits Out At Sports Direct, Insists Club Is On The Road To Recovery

Scottish Championship side Rangers Chair Dave King "launched a blistering attack on Sports Direct" and insisted the current Rangers regime is "steering the club clear of the mess it inherited last March," according to David McCarthy of the Scotland DAILY RECORD. King issued a statement to update fans on a series of issues -- "including the revamping of the club’s training HQ at Auchenhowie and the court battles it has faced" with Mike Ashley’s retail company. King and Rangers "successfully defended a series of court actions that have earned stinging rebukes for Sports Direct." King said, "For the first time a board of this club has stood up to the threats of Sports Direct and has achieved resounding success in court proceedings including the substantial recovery of legal costs." King is "adamant the board is backing Manager Mark Warburton to the hilt in the transfer market" and by fixing what he described as a "broken" Murray Park operation -- which he referred to as "Auchenhowie." King: "There has been substantial investment in Auchenhowie. This has resulted in the broken operation that we inherited last year now being fully-functional again." And he insisted a closer working relationship with fans' groups remains a priority for the board, saying, "Work is ongoing to merge the existing supporters groups. The new organization that emerges will provide Rangers fans with a way to get even closer to the club and to increase the supporter shareholding position" (DAILY RECORD, 2/4).
