Belgium Club Player Paid Coach To Play, No Action Taken By Belgium FA

The Belgium FA (URBSFA) announced that it believes “there were no elements of competitive fraud in the case related to the interview with the Standard de Liège president concerning the behavior of a player and a coach last season.” In the interview Standard President Bruno Venanzi “claimed that a player paid his coach to play.” The Federal Prosecutor opened the investigation in September after the remarks made by Venanzi “that a player paid his coach, who accepted, to play last season.” URBSFA said in a statement that “given this is an internal matter concerning the club in question, no names have been released by the Federal Prosecutor” (LA MEUSE, 10/27).
