Nine Out Of 14 Romanian Liga 1 Clubs Face Point Losses And Relegation

Romanian Football Federation Dir of Licensing Viorel Duru said that as many as nine out of the 14 clubs which compete in Romania's top tier Liga 1 "risk relegation due to their desperate financial positions," according to Jaroslaw Adamowski of INSIDE WORLD FOOTBALL. The nine clubs "have not complied with license obligations to pay their outstanding debts within the time schedule set by the federation and, as a result, have now been subjected to a special monitoring procedure." Duru: "It is easier to say which clubs are not monitored, as there are few such clubs. Steaua, FC Voluntari, Concordia Chiajna, CSU Craiova and ACS Poli Timisoara don't have such problems. This is the first year when we will have such a monitoring procedure." Duru said that the offending clubs should get "used to responsible management," and that the federation is planning to enforce their compliance with "stricter measures" (INSIDE WORLD FOOTBALL, 10/23).
