Status Of Argentine FA's Agreement Unclear Following Exec's Surprise Replacement

An agreement reached by Argentine FA execs "included three central points:" clearing San Lorenzo VP Marcelo Tinelli to run for the presidency of the AFA, delaying the presidential elections and reinstating Roberto Fernández as the head of the Federal Council, according to LOS ANDES. On Friday, current AFA President Luis Segura named Alfredo Derito as the replacement for Fernández, "and the agreement between the parties is now in danger." Fernández: "The president decided not to reincorporate me, this was part of the agreement signed last Tuesday. Due to the failure to fulfill one of the parts [of the agreement], there is a high probability that the agreement falls apart and everything goes back to the previous status." Tinelli on Monday "published a suggestive and controversial tweet," saying, "Recalculating..." Tinelli was scheduled to meet with Fernández to "analyze the situation" on Monday. The AFA's Exec Committee will meet again on Tuesday, "with all the protagonists present, and there could be important decisions for the future of the organization" (LOS ANDES, 8/31).
