German State Government Will Increase Financial Support For New Stadium

The German state of Baden-Württemberg "will increase its financial support for the construction of 2nd Bundesliga side SC Freiburg's new stadium," according to Roland Muschel of BADISCHE ZEITUNG. The state government will reportedly contribute a total of €16M ($18M). A corresponding "letter of intent" is expected to be signed by State Treasurer Nils Schmidt and Freiburg Mayor Dieter Salomon on Monday. Originally the government talked about €10M ($11M) in state funding. Details of the state's financial support "are expected to be contractually determined by the end of the year." The total cost for the new stadium will be an estimated €117M ($131M) (BADISCHE ZEITUNG, 8/28).
