DAVID GRIFFITHS has been elected as the president of the FA of Wales for a three-year term following an FAW council meeting in Cardiff. Griffiths, 69, brings 50 years of football administration experience to the role, having held a number of positions within the FAW, UEFA and FIFA since being voted onto the FAW council in '92 -- including those of treasurer and senior VP. He is also a life president of the Welsh Football League and was one of the longest-serving club secretaries in the history of the domestic game in Wales, reaching 45 years with Maesteg Park (UEFA). ... Dutch Eredivisie side Twente Enschede coach ALFRED SCHREUDER "became the first casualty" of the new season after being sacked on Sunday, less than 24 hours after the team lost its derby match at Heracles Almelo. Schreuder "had been in charge since 2013" (REUTERS, 8/30).
