Event Notes: Rugby Fans Warned Over World Cup Ticket Website

A ticketing website which claims to sell tickets for sold-out matches in the Rugby World Cup is offering deals which are "too good to be true" and could be "scamming customers," a consumer watchdog has warned. Which? claimed that consumers who buy tickets from GetSporting.com are unlikely to receive their order -- "or could even be sent fake tickets which would not allow them access to the match." It said that the site, which is selling tickets for the Rugby World Cup final at Twickenham in October for up to £1,795 ($2,800) each, is not registered as an official Rugby World Cup 2015 re-selling site. It is "also operating against the ticketing policy for the tournament -- allowing people to buy up to 10 tickets at once instead of the official allowance of four" (SCOTSMAN, 8/26). ... Super League rugby clubs Leeds Rhinos and Hull Kingston Rovers have both "all but sold out their allocation of tickets for this weekend's Challenge Cup final at Wembley as it looks set to be the biggest crowd at the showpiece occasion in recent years." More than 79,000 tickets have reportedly been sold in total, with Leeds and Hull KR both having sold all but a few of their allocation of around 10,000 tickets apiece -- meaning that the attendance should surpass the figure of 77,914 that saw Leeds take on Castleford last year and the gate in the previous three seasons as well (RUNNING RUGBY, 8/27).
