Deutsche Telekom Draws Average Of 11,000 Viewers

German telecom company Deutsche Telekom "drew an average of 11,000 viewers to its broadcast of Basketball Bundesliga (BBL) games last season," according to Matthias Kettenburg of SPONSORs. The number means Deutsche Telekom "attracted an average of 100,000 viewers to its coverage of all nine BBL matches per gameday." The website, Telekombasketball.de, reportedly has about 80,000 subscribers. Deutsche Telekom "acquired the BBL broadcast rights ahead of the '14-15 season." The Telekom numbers "are similar to those of free-TV channel Sport1, which also showed BBL matches." The network also attracted an average of 100,000 viewers during the '14-15 season, which is about 40,00 less than in '13-14. The BBL's coverage time on German public broadcasters ARD and ZDF "increased by 18% to 38.39 hours during the '14-15 season." The total viewership increased to 244.93 million over the course of the season, which is an increase of 22%. Overall -- across public, private and regional broadcasters -- the BBL's total "viewership increased by 7% in '14-15." The total coverage time grew by 31% (SPONSORs, 8/26).
