German Channel RTL Records More Than 4 Million Viewers For Belgium F1 Grand Prix

German free-to-air TV channel RTL "recorded more than 4 million viewers for its broadcast of the Belgium F1 Grand Prix on Sunday," according to Alexander Krei of DWDL. The race, which was won by Mercedes driver Lewis Hamilton, attracted 4.25 million viewers. The number translated into a market share of 29.7%. As reported by Meedia, the figure was the lowest for a Belgium GP since '93. Last year's race had a 30.1% market share as 4.59 million viewers tuned in. In the target demographic 14-49, the market share decreased from 24.7% to 23.6%. Pay-TV channel Sky Deutschland, which also aired the race, drew 280,000 viewers. In '14, Sky attracted 450,000 viewers. This year's race had a market share of 2.1% in the target demo.

BUNDESLIGA MATCHDAY: Sky recorded 710,000 viewers for its broadcast of the Bundesliga game between Borussia Dortmund and FC Ingolstadt on Sunday. In the target demo, Dortmund's 4-0 victory had a 6.7% share. The day's second match between Mönchengladbach and Mainz had a 3.9% share in the target demo. Mainz's 2-1 victory drew 580,000 viewers. Saturday's Bundesliga simulcast obtained a 17.1% share in the target demo. The coverage drew an average of 1.17 million viewers. The game between Hamburg and Stuttgart drew an 8.7% share.

IAAF WORLDS: ARD's broadcast of the athletics world championship was watched by 1.8 million viewers on Sunday. Starting at 12:39pm, the coverage from Beijing drew a 9% market share in the target demo. The Canoe World Championships obtained a 8.3% as 860,000 tuned in on Sunday morning. The FEI European Championships drew 1.53 million in the afternoon and obtained a 10.8% share. In the target demo, the event from Aachen, Germany had a 4.4% share (DWDL, 8/24).
