Football Notes: ASEAN Football Federation Cancels Election After Makudi Pulls Out

Myanmar was due to host an election this weekend, "but it was cancelled after the only challenger to the incumbent president of the ASEAN Football Federation withdrew from the race." Sultan Ahmad Shah won a second term after Worawi Makudi of Thailand withdrew after he "took up the indication to withdraw from the fact that there will be no voting for the positions of the four vice-presidents of the AFF." He said, "I have tremendous respect for the Sultan. And I believe that I was the closest to the Sultan and I hope I will continue to be the closest to his Royal Highness" (MYANMAR TIMES, 8/24). ... Following an investigation launched by the Serbian FA (FSS), as a response to reports indicating that a match between local rivals Red Star Belgrade and OFK Belgrade "was rigged," the Serbian Ministry of Interior has formed "special police teams tasked with investigating managers, footballers and clubs' supporters." An official involved in the investigation said, "Match-fixing will be discussed with supporters. There are some indications that leaders of supporters' group have been engaged in match-fixing. Some of them might not be involved, but they have information on this" (INSIDE WORLD FOOTBALL, 8/24). ... The ASEAN Football Federation and Sportradar extended their partnership to cover the AFF U19 Youth Championships in Laos from last Saturday-Sept. 4. The AFF first partnered with Sportradar in November for the AFF Suzuki Cup (Sportradar).
