In a joint statement that "was lacking in detail," they said that it would "reinforce the current strengths of the two tours by maximizing global opportunities as well as increasing playing opportunities and prize funds for the respective memberships." Both organizations "are lagging" behind the PGA Tour in terms of prize money and int'l gravitas may be an indication of Europe and Asia "joining forces in an effort to provide a stronger challenge to the supremacy of their U.S. rivals" (REUTERS, 8/21). ... Indian Premier League side Chennai Super Kings "have been given a lifeline by the Madras High Court." A petition filed by the former IPL champions, suspended by a the Supreme Court-appointed Justice RM Lodha Committee, will be heard on August 27. The first bench of Madras High Court on Friday "found the petition of CSK's new owner Chennai Super Kings Cricket Ltd. challenging the suspension, maintainable and issued notice to the Board of Control for Cricket in India" (NDTV SPORTS, 8/21).
