ESPN International Takes La Liga Rights In Spanish-Speaking South America

ESPN Int'l "purchased the multimedia rights" for La Liga and Liga Adelante, Spain's top two divisions, in Spanish-speaking South America until the end of the '19-20 season, according to SOCCEREX. The agreement with the Spanish Football League (LFP) "was brokered by int'l sports rights agency Mediapro and gives ESPN five live matches a week from each league" as well as a weekly magazine program, a highlights package and various special shows that will air throughout the season. The deal is one of the first int'l rights packages to be announced since the LFP moved to a collective negotiation and distribution system, "after clubs were previously responsible for selling their own broadcast rights" (SOCCEREX, 7/30).
