Spain's Competition Authority Fines Telefónica, DTS For Collusion In Broadcast Deals

Spain's National Commission of Markets & Competition (CNMC) has fined Telefónica and subsidiary DTS €15M ($17.2M) for their deals and concerted performance in the acquisition, resale and exploitation of the audiovisual rights to football from the '12-13 season through '14-15, according to the EFE. Telefónica is being sued for €10M ($11.1M) and DTS for €5.5M ($6.1M). The CNMC considers the agreements infractions of article 1 of the Defense of Competition Law as well as article 101 of the Treaty on the Functioning of the European Union. In Aug. '12, Telefónica and DTS reached two agreements for the commercialization of Canal+ Liga de Campeones and Canal+ Liga (EFE, 7/24).
