Bundesliga Aims For €1B Annually From Domestic, Int'l Media Rights

The German Football League (DFL) wants to earn more than €1B ($1.1B) annually from its media rights from '17, according to the SID. The DFL's goal for its upcoming media rights tender "is breaking the one-billion mark." DFL CEO Christian Seifert: "It is realistic that we will be above €1 billion when it comes to the total amount from domestic and international rights." The league will award the rights in April. The Bundesliga receives around €628M annually from its current four-year deal. The league's tender concept, which is currently being reviewed by the German Cartel Office, "has been criticized by fans as it would further split up the matchdays." Seifert: "It's the DFL's duty to bring all interested parties under one hat. It's a balancing act in all directions. Other leagues make it easy on themselves and simply ignore all interests -- aside from money." He added that in Spain there are 10 different kickoff time for 10 matches (SID, 7/9).
