Budapest's Bid For 2024 Olympic Games Takes Shape, Moves Forward

Hungarian lawmakers have "voted in support of a bid by the capital city of Budapest to host the 2024 Summer Games," according to the AP. The bid has already "received the backing" of the Hungarian Olympic Committee (MOB) and the Budapest city council, with the government's approval expected soon. Boston, Paris, Rome, and Hamburg are "considered the main contenders" for the 2024 Games. The resolution presented by PM Viktor Orban's Fidesz party and its Christian democrat allies was also "supported Monday by the far-right Jobbik party but rejected by the opposition parties" (AP, 7/7).
