Strategic Development Of Brazilian Football Council's First Meeting Discusses Improvements

Seven former coaches of the Brazilian national team along with head coach Dunga and agent Gilmar Rinaldi held the first Strategic Development Brazilian Football Council meeting on Monday to "discuss how to improve football," according to Ronald Lincoln Jr. of ESTADÃO. Participants agreed that a "reform is necessary" for clubs when selecting their coaching staff, but no measures had been announced to "solidify those changes." Council members "tried to remove complete responsibilities from the Brazilian team for the drop in national football revenue." Former team Manager Carlos Alberto Parreira said, "Football is a pyramid, and we need to think of its base, which is the clubs, the coaches and the competition calendar" (ESTADÃO, 7/6). GLOBO ESPORTE's Vicente Seda reported the main consensus of the meeting was the "necessity to strengthen clubs" and the council plans on "granting scholarships so that professionals in this area are equipped" properly. Five other meetings with "foreign coachs, sport scientists, Série A coaches, players and business professionals" are expected to be planned with regard to this subject. However, "dates for these meetings are not yet official" (GLOBO ESPORTE, 7/6).
