National Rugby League Reduces Parramatta Eels' Salary Cap Fine By $45,000

The National Rugby League has reduced Parramatta's fine for salary cap breaches by A$60,000 ($44,730) after "considering the club's appeal," according to Steve Zemek of the AAP. The Eels in May were fined A$525,000 for exceeding all four salary cap categories last year by more than A$400,000. However, their penalty has been reduced to A$465,000 ($346,630) after "putting forward a clarification of aspects of their second-tier payments." The club is still "facing the loss of four competition points next year unless it undertakes an independent governance review." Parramatta will next "decide whether to seek leave to appeal both the fine and the possible deduction of points" (AAP, 7/7).
