Spain's Superior Sports Council Asks Court To Terminate President Of Tennis Federation

Spain's Superior Sports Council's (CSD) board of directors requested that the country's Administrative Court for Sport (TAD) open another investigation into Spanish Tennis Federation (RFET) President José Luis Escañuela and interim President Olvido Aguilera for "the seriousness of the facts presented," according to Jesús Mínguez of AS. The CSD board also requested "the automatic suspension" of both. The CSD board is authorized by Spain's Sports Law to "suspend with reason ... the president and other members of the governing bodies of federations" in the event of serious violations like "the incorrect use of funds." But it opted to go through the TAD, "which will now indefinitely increase Escañuela's suspension" and sanction Aguilera, "who faces allegations from various territories" of being named to the position illegally (AS, 7/1).
